Subject: [berkeleyforum] Urgent: Call Sacramento to call for passage of SB1438
To: berkeleyforum@yahoogroups.com
Dear All,
As you may have seen in Sunday's Oakland Tribune, L.A. *Democrat* Judy
Chu, pulled S.B. 1438, which would require a paper trail for the
election in November, because of "concerns about cost." I just talked
with Darren Chesin of Don Perata's staff (Perata is a co-sponsor of the
bill, which was introduced by Republican Senator Johnson after the
paperless touchscreen technology caused so many problems in the most
recent election). Chesin urged people to call and say we want the bill
passed now, in this session, to protect our votes in November. Btw, the
L.A. Registrar of Voters, Conny McCormack, is one of the worst and most
vociferous on this topic--undoubtedly Chu is falling for her blather.
Here are the phone numbers:
The Assembly Appropriations Committee: (916) 319-2081
Assemblywoman Judy Chu: (916) 319-2049.
Please call now, and please get as many others as you can to call.
Although the Tribune referred to the bill has having been "killed" by
Chu's action, Chesin says there is real hope, if they receive many phone
calls. I just called and got right through.
Judy
