[OVC-demo-team] [Fwd: Team effort]

Hello all,

I've removed some parts of this forward since it involved access to
systems that we do not want publicly announced on the list but it is a
fair account of what still needs to be done. The brp needs a fair
amount of effort still and I'd like everyone who can help to pitch in,
not just the 3 that I named in this e-mail.

Stability, portability and adhering to the spec are clue. Let me know
if you can help out with this. We have important demos yet to do.

Hi all,

The BRP process is core to what we are doing and is really more then a
one man job. I'd like to ask the 3 of you to form a team to deal with
the current set of issues we have with BRP. Eron has done a great job
of putting together the process, screens and functional code for this
part of the project, but there is more to be done yet. I'd like to
commend Eron for the extreme effort he has put in. He worked into the
wee hours all last week on this and has done more then anyone could
expect. Let's all help out on this and make sure this effort does not
go to waste.

Here are the top 3 priorities as I see them.

1) Stability. We have had issues with parts of the software breaking at
inopportune moments on systems other then the magical developer box.
Since we can't ship that box or the dev, we need to make sure this will
run elsewhere. Right now the scanning is broken. We also have a fudged
report at the end of the run due to some sort of I/O error that was
causing all ballots to be registered as missing.

2) Portability. We have deps on Python 2.3.3 and the latest versions of
PyQT and QT. This needs to run with Pyton 2.2.3 (and possibly earlier)
and QT 3.1.2 (and possibly earlier). The reasoning behind this is that
later versions of Linux require higher powered hardware and we are
aiming for a low power solution. It also is important that we can run
on an "average" Linux install, not the version that came out last week.

3) Complete adherence to the "spec". Although we haven't been too
formal about this, there are some persnickity bits about how the system
works right now. Specifically we need to have the serial number
associated with the voting station ID and to get rid of or identify the
"orphan" item in the report at the end of the run. Once the brp is able
to run on everyone's system I believe we will find some more items to
clean up.

Thanks for the help!
