I'm working on developing a self-hosting environment to ship as a single
package. So far, I've got a pre-built binary of Python with PyQt/SIP/Qt
built-in to the interpreter. I need to figure out the best way to execute the
programs generically from here (probably ENV variables for now). If all goes
well, we'll be able to ship this single package, using the latest stable
libraries. I'd really like some assistance on this, so anyone with expertice
in packaging/configuration please stand up.
As for a status report on my demo for the 17th, I'm working hard on putting
together an exciting event. I put out the press release (which I only
slightly modified from the original) to contacts at many major news channels,
such as both major newspapers, the local affiliate stations for NPR radio,
NBC & FOX news, hispanic radio, and several underground watchdog groups. I've
also contacted people from the universities in the area: Millersville,
Franklin & Marshall, Stevens Institute, and Harrisburg Area Community
College. I've got an invite to the Commissioners and Board of Elections, as
well as elected officials of the municipalities. Additionally, I've talked to
representatives for every major political party in the county, including the
Democrats, Republicans, Greens, Constitution, and Libertarian. Their support
is critical to our efforts. I also have personal interest from a professor of
Mathematics, who I may get to become active in our group.
I plan on providing a comprehensive presentation on the background of the
issue. I'll be selling copies of Bev's book (which I can get at a discount
rate through the library), and providing a plethora of materials, such as the
bills in Congress, articles and news clippings, an OVC brochure and guide to
the applications, Takoma Park's resolution (which I will push the county to
endorse something similar), business cards, and a sign-up/info. request
sheet. I've got volunteers to assist in the event for greeting, refreshments,
tabling, etc. I'll also have someone taping the entire session. As you can
see, I'm pretty experienced in this sort of thing.
I plan to be hard at work all week to ensure success. Within a week after the
presentation here in Lancaster, I expect to have a scheduled appearance in
Harrisburg with the Secretary of State for some time within the next two
months.
