Excellent. I definitely agree that links to the ballot should go
through Jan's explanation rather than directly to the ballot screen.
Users are likely to miss some important issues otherwise (for example,
Alan received a note from a user who mistook the need for scrolling for
a design flaw; thinking in terms of best design for a web interface, I
think).

I would suggest just a few wording changes and additions (allcaps used
to highlight changes only; curly brackets for deletions):

----------------------
THE WEB DEMO BALLOT

The web ballot is a simulation of the prototype poll-site voting
machine. You may go directly to the web ballot, but first please take a
look at some of the issues with the web ballot that will not be present
in the real ballot:

        • Javascript{s} IS used to emulate some of the functionality of the
real demo system, since this cannot be achieved in plain HTML. {The}
Javascript support varies between browsers, and some browsers are
simply buggy in this respect, so the behavior in your browser may not
be as intended. In particular, if Javascript{s} IS not enabled in your
browser, it will be possible to make otherwise invalid selections.

        • Some validation in the web-ballot is performed after submission
rather than directly on the ballot screen.

        • You will probably need to scroll, both horizontally and
vertically, to access the entire ballot. THIS IS TO REPLICATE THE
APPEARANCE OF THE POLLING-PLACE BALLOT SCREEN.

        • Write-in names are entered from a normal keyboard instead of using
an on-screen keyboard.

        • Choices are made by selecting a checkbox or radio button. On the
real ballot one can also click (or press) on the text representing the
choice.

Please note that the web ballot is intended to give a feeling of how
the real voting station will look like. It DOES NOT {is not intended
to} look and behave in exactly the same way.
