Votes cast on electronic machines arerecorded on memory cards, and
plugging6,000 cards into machine ports tocount the votes takes a long time.
ButDiebold Election Systems, which makesthe county's voting machines, has
createda device that can count votes on sixmemory cards at a time, in about
a minute.
The board will buy 36 of the devicesand wire them together to count rapidly.
The devices, which cost about $5,000each, were recommended by a
threememberpanel that investigated theproblems in the May primary.
