I have no objection to adding a compresson layer, although we can
probably postpone that until after the demo.

But I find it to be an show stopper to allow (easily) human identifiable
vote results on barcodes. Protecting vote anonymity is quite essential.
Let's not move backwards on a recognized and agreed upon specification,
please.

Specifically, earlier in our discussion, we had looked at several
barcode styles; some were much easier to recognize visual patterns in
than others. Now that we have formalized on using Jan's proposal, and
the digit encoding, I find with visual examination that patterns are
clearly identifiable by eyeball. I base this upon Jan's ballot sample.

While, of course, other techniques might also suffice to disguise a vote
pattern from a casual viewer, I believe (and we agreed) that padding was
be far the simplest and most straightforward technique.

I am working on expanding that section of the architecture document, and
I will be sure to clarify that the padding approach is only one possible
production approach to visual obfuscation; but also that the need for
SOME form of visual obfuscation is a firm requirement.

I believe a 2-digit random number is plenty. I am confident we will not
need to pad by more than 99 positions.
